In July of 2023, Mike and I decided to buy an as-is fixer-upper in our college town of Stillwater. Boy oh boy did we have a blast gutting and refinishing that little 1950’s midcentury house that we ended turning into a gameday house and airbnb. The before and afters of that project were, well, pretty extreme to see. An added bonus to that project was a surprise email we got from some other OSU fans and alumni who had also just bought a house in Stillwater and were looking to remodel themselves.
We met the excited new homeowners at their house in Stillwater, had a look-see, drooled over their location (you can literally throw a stone into O’Brate stadium (the baseball stadium for the OSU Cowboys and it’s a short walk to the football stadium), and instantly said we’d love to do the project if they’d have us.
Over the next few months we finished up our own project in Stillwater, and meanwhile we totally revamped and remodeld another beauty of a project not far from us. For the purposes of this post we will call that house…
The Obrate Project. If you’re a OSU fan you know why. If you aren’t, google it and you soon will 🙂
In a nutshell let me tell you that this home was a ranch style beauty – very well built.
It was just oh so dated and OH so closed off. The kitchen was a galley kitchen with very little space for sitting or entertaining. The spaces were small and tight.
THE BEFORE:
The mission, should we choose to except it: to open that sucker up and turn it into a game day house where people could gather and laugh and eat and talk and enjoy time together and of course toast to the Cowboys.
You betcha we chose to accept the mission and here is the story ( in pictures and a few words, or maybe a lot because I don’t know how to do just a few words.)
Enjoy!
THE KITCHEN:
This is one of the most dramatic kitchen makeovers in CC and Mike history, I do believe. Like I mentioned before, the challenge was to update this kitchen to 2024 and get a nice sitting island for entertaining AND all the update appliances in a very tight space – the kitchen was only 10 feet wide. In order to accomplish this we had to knock into the garage and frame into it to add cabinetry, AND we did a hidden pantry as you can see. I’m really proud of the end result and love the transformation!
The feature here is the premade vanity, black and white geometric wall tile, and cement look alike floors which have been a new favorite of mine. They are a super affordable tile and have a beautiful look. This master bath is a DRASTIC makeover because the shower was tiny. I’m talking tiny, you guys. So we knocked into a closet space and reframed it to make a nice big bathroom.
This used to be super awkward space with bifold doors off the living room. I think we can all agree the glow up was pretty substantial and this room is amazing – GO POKES!
This is the view directly to the right when you walk in the house. It was totally closed off from the living room and to be honest, was just a narrow, awkward and non-functional space. We opened it up and made it a gorgeous dinging room and sitting room that is completely open to the living room – perfect for game day festivities!
This project was so much fun and Mike and I loved making over this game day house for some other die hard Oklahoma State Fans. Hope you enjoyed the tour and,
