Reflections from the RV

Sharing is caring!

So it turns out that 18 hours in an RV means plenty of time for blogging.  I’ve had a lot of people ask me about our RV expeditions with our kiddos and if I would recommend it or not.  Here’s the deal.  If you are thinking about renting an RV or buying one and taking the fam on some cross country road trips: DO IT.  You will undoubtedly make the most amazing family travel memories that you and your kids will look back on and remember for the rest of your lives.  With that being said, know that there will be highs and lows.  Like all of the most beautiful experiences in life, you know like childbirth, marriage, parenting, life in general… there will be painful moments when you think, “Dear God, what have I gotten myself into??!?!  I CAN’T DO THIS!” But then there will be these insanely beautiful moments, moments like the one below that you will see at the very end of these pictures, moments where you realize it’s been quiet for 30 minutes and no one has asked for a snack or a meal even though you literally, like LITERALLY, just fed them and got everything cleaned up, and in that beautiful silence you decide to walk back and check on your kids to find them snuggled up in the back bedroom and both the older kids are reading to the baby.  Just like that, all the inconveniences are worth it.  Because just like that you realize that they are getting older and you only have this one life.  You realize they aren’t going to be around forever.  You realize that one day, one day that is coming all too soon, you will look back on the times you shared in this little space and they will be the best family memories that you made together.  And you will have that to hold onto forever.

So do I recommend RV travel with kids?  Yes I absolutely do.  But you better be ready for the crazy town.  Wrestling matches and food spills and stopping at rest stops to make your wild kiddos do sprints, high knees, and jumping jacks to get all that crazy energy out, fights between kids, and yes, even some fights between mom and dad (ok, ok, I admit I’m not the best navigator or trip itinerary planner but I take some darn good pictures at least!).  Yep, you better be ready for the crazy town.  But you also better be ready for the crazy beautiful.

So here is #millerspringbreak2016 days 1 & 2.  Otherwise known as 18 hours in an RV with 3 kids and a dog and some tired and grumpy parents.  Just keeping it real.  I would like to take this moment to give a shout out to the hottest RV driver around.  18 hours behind the wheel and only 3 stops.  He is a beast and apparently has the bladder of a camel.  Meanwhile I have peed at least twenty-two times.  I don’t know how he does it.

Eighteen hours.  7 states.  But tomorrow morning we will be waking up on the shores of a South Carolina beach and something tells me in that moment, we aren’t going to remember the drive at all.
